The Appalachian Outpost<\/u><\/a> in Lyburn, West Virginia. Your one stop shop for family adventure, beautiful views, and good food. A small mountain town feel with lots to do, it’s the perfect spot for your next family trip. We loved the history, the natural spaces, and it’s close proximity to the some of the best ATV trails on the east coast. Here’s where to stay, where to play, and what to eat; plus our 3 day itinerary. The cabins at Appalachian Outpost<\/u><\/a>. These new cabins sleep 8, have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen (some cabins are pet friendly too). There is an on property restaurant, coffee and ice cream shop, UTV rentals, gas station, and stores. A great location, right off the Rockhouse ATV trails, and hours from Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA. We loved the views of the mountains right from our cabin, and the small mountain town feel of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Trail riding on the Hatfield-McCoy Trails<\/u><\/a> with a UTV rental from BAC Country ATV Rentals<\/u><\/a>. This was such a fun way to see the beautiful countryside, it’s like a giant playground for adults (and their kids!).<\/p>
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n


  2. Visit Chief Logan State Park<\/u><\/a>. Take a hike (we loved the cliffside trail), visit the free museum, and check out their wildlife exhibit.<\/p>
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n


  3. Visit the Hatfield Homeplace Museum<\/u><\/a> to learn more about the famous Hatfield-McCoy feud. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet Jack Hatfield, the great great great grandson of Devil Anse Hatfield himself. He had so many cool stories for us and made history come alive. If you haven’t seen the miniseries about the feud, I definitely suggest watching it before your visit.<\/p>

  4. Visit the Hatfield Cemetery. See all the final resting place of many of the famous Hatfields.<\/p>

  5. Watch a movie and play arcade games at the Fountain Place Cinema<\/u><\/a>. They even have unlimited popcorn and sodas!<\/p>
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n


  6. Learn more about the local history at Country Road’s Byway Visitor Center. This was a great homeschool lesson stop for us, and we learned a lot about the local coal mining history.<\/p>

    1. Broken Axle<\/u><\/a>. Located on site at Appalachian Outpost, grab some delicious southern comfort food, try some of the local brews, and play a game of pool. We loved their deep fried buffalo mac wrap, fried green tomatoes, and pepperoni rolls. Be sure to try the Devil Anse IPA from Greenbrier Brewing Co, based in West Virginia.<\/p>

    2. Red Bird Caf\u00e9<\/u><\/a>. Get an epic frappe (these things are next level), and ice cream, or a delicious coffee. <\/p>
      <\/li>\n\n\n\n


    3. Parkway Drive In.<\/u><\/a> Get lunch delivered right to your car or dine inside. They have a homestyle special every day and the dumpling were amazing.<\/p>
      <\/li>\n\n\n\n


    4. Nu-Era Bakery.<\/u><\/a> Grab homemade donuts or a delicious dessert. We had a chance to see behind the scenes on this 84 year old bakery and they put so much love in every cake and donut. <\/p>
